DAY 01

ARRIVAL DAY

Welcome to Cuba! Upon arrival in Havana you will be met by your local Cuban guide and driver who will accompany you throughout your trip. En route to your hotel enjoy a panoramic overview of the city that includes a stop at the remarkable Revolution Square. The square features the José Martí Memorial and famous depiction of revolutionary heroes, Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos. Drive around the vibrant Vedado district. Along the way, you will see a wide mixture of architectural styles and testimony of Cuba’s different influences: Spanish, British, and American.

Check into your hotel and freshen up for tonight’s welcome dinner. Enjoy a fusion-style meal to celebrate your first night in iconic Havana at a local paladar (privately-owned restaurant). Take this opportunity to experience the entrepreneurial endeavors of the Cuban people while you enjoy new flavors and authentic recipes.

DAY 01

ARRIVAL DAY

Welcome to Cuba! Upon arrival in Havana you will be met by your local Cuban guide and driver who will accompany you throughout your trip. En route to your hotel enjoy a panoramic overview of the city that includes a stop at the remarkable Revolution Square. The square features the José Martí Memorial and famous depiction of revolutionary heroes, Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos. Drive around the vibrant Vedado district. Along the way, you will see a wide mixture of architectural styles and testimony of Cuba’s different influences: Spanish, British, and American.

Check into your hotel and freshen up for tonight’s welcome dinner. Enjoy a fusion-style meal to celebrate your first night in iconic Havana at a local paladar (privately-owned restaurant). Take this opportunity to experience the entrepreneurial endeavors of the Cuban people while you enjoy new flavors and authentic recipes.

DAY 02

OLD HAVANA & HEMINGWAY
Breakfast at the hotel.
Your first visit of the day will be to a cigar factory. You will have the opportunity to interact with an expert and learn about the process of rolling the famous Habano cigars. Next, walk through Old Havana with your Cuban guide to learn about the historical importance of its glorious buildings, some dating to colonial times; be introduced to the restoration and preservation process of its most elaborate structures. Discover the history of Old Havana on foot through the four main squares: Plaza Vieja, Plaza de Armas, Plaza San Francisco de Asís and Plaza de la Catedral. During your walking tour, experience the daily life of Cubans, exchange with local vendors and learn about their culture and traditions.

Depart to the charming village of Cojímar, Ernest Hemingway’s favorite fishing town where he docked his boat El Pilar, which served as the background for “The Old Man and the Sea.” Stroll along the boardwalk where you can interact with the local fishermen and see the monument that was established in Hemingway’s honor. Lunch will be at a local restaurant where you will be able to taste traditional Cuban cuisine. After lunch, depart to Finca Vigía, Hemingway’s former home located in the town of San Francisco de Paula, where he wrote two of his most famous novels Peer into the windows and admire the items left behind in the house when Hemingway departed to the United States, including more than 8,000 books, personal relics and rare collections. Our last stop will be at the organic farm La Yoandra (a private Cuban enterprise). The farm sits on approximately 7.5 acres and features over 120 fruit varieties, as well as vegetable and legume organic gardens, ornamental plants, and medicinal herbs. Discover the farm while engaging with the owner’s daughter, Carla, to learn about their community project for local seniors. Don’t forget to explore their amazing wine cellar, one of the best in town! At the end of the experience sip on an authentic Cuban mojito made with fresh ingredients from the farm. Return to the hotel.

FUSTERLANDIA & LAS TERRAZAS

Visit Fusterlandia, a community project started by the renowned Cuban artist José Fuster known as The Picasso of the Caribbean, who transformed his entire neighborhood into a colorful mosaic and artistic mecca.

This afternoon you will explore beyond Havana on this journey to a magical natural reserve. Just an hour drive west of the capital discover a tropical haven full of art studios, natural river pools, and coffee plantation ruins. Interact with Cuban individuals who live in the region of Las Terrazas, a UNESCO Cuban biosphere reserve. It is named after the lush forest of trees built along the hillsides in terraces as part of a major reforestation project in the late 1960’s. Enjoy a walking tour around the region with a naturalist who will provide you with information on the local flora and fauna. Indulge a traditional Cuban lunch at the old farmer’s house and interact with the community residents. The region is nearly independent and self-sustained with food locally sourced. The residential artists create most of the wood furniture for the nearby hotel and homes.

Return to your hotel in Havana and prepare for a farewell dinner at one of the most popular private owned restaurants in town. Cruise in an American classic car. Your driver and car owner will take you on a scenic ride through some of the city’s highlights. The farewell dinner will be at La Habanera, a family owned business, opened by Cuban entrepreneurs merging the traditional Cuban cuisine with new international trends. The chef will explain the menu and share key points about Cuban cuisine. Tonight, is a great opportunity to learn the stories and challenges private business owners face today in Cuba. As we reminisce all that we have experienced together on this meaningful journey, we bid Cuba and its beautiful people farewell!

OFF TO VARADERO
After your last breakfast in Havana, continue your Cuban journey with a two-hour transfer to Matanzas. It is one of the most picturesque cities of Cuba, famous for its culture, religion and beautiful beaches. Matanzas is known as the City of the Bridges and the Athens of Cuba due to the cultural development achieved in the 19th century. On the way, there will be a brief stop at the Bacunayagua Bridge, one of the seven wonders of Cuban civil engineering where you can admire the beauty of the Yumury Valley. You will have the opportunity to interact with local artists and musicians while taking in the magnificent view.

Visit the private workshop of local artist Loló Soldevilla, and interact with him while learning about his work and the challenges he faces in Cuba today. There will be an opportunity to purchase some of his artwork as a way to contribute to his project. After, dive into a traditional Cuban lunch at a local restaurant. Visit the social community project “Maravillas de la Infancia” (Infancy Wonders) and immerse yourself in an amazing cultural journey. Discover community traditions within the Matanzas area. Check into your hotel and prepare for dinner at one of the many venues available at your hotel.

HAVANA-VARADERO
After your last breakfast in Havana, continue your Cuban journey with a two-hour transfer to Matanzas. CARDENAS & FINCA LUNA

Good morning! It is time to enjoy your last full day in Cuba. Meet in the lobby to depart to the city of Cárdenas to visit a couple Cuban artists at their local workshops. Your first stop will be at the private silversmith workshop of artist Francisco Javier Hoyos. Interact with the artist and watch him in action while he creates some of his famous pieces. Next, we will go to La Chero, a private handcraft store. Meet with artists Cristina Valdes and Alejandro Vigil and learn how they create their pieces from recycled items. These 2 visits will give you the opportunity to engage with local entrepreneurs and support their small businesses by purchasing some of the artwork.
Depart for Finca Luna located in the region of Jovellanos. Take a stroll with the Cuban family who maintains the Finca and learn about the agricultural traditions and sustainable organic farming practices. Lunch will be on the premise. Enjoy some of the most authentic regional dishes made with ingredients from the farm. Return to the hotel, and enjoy your farewell group dinner at one of the all-inclusive hotel restaurants.

Matanzas

DAY 05
