Welcome to the long-awaited 13th Havana Biennial! This inspiring artistic event will be held April 12 to May 12 in various cities throughout the island. The theme is “The Construction of the Possible.” Its goal is to encourage the interaction between local and foreign creators, curators, experts, and institutions. Join us on this 7-night amazing program that will captivate your mind and heart. In addition to all of the curated cultural experiences we have in store for you, you will have the opportunity to meet and greet various artists, venture around several independent art spaces, and embark on an unforgettable day trip to the magnificent Viñales Valley.  Enjoy a very unique opportunity to immerse yourself in one of the most interesting and iconic art festivals in the western hemisphere!

April 13

ARRIVAL DAY

Hello Cuba! Upon arriving at Havana International Airport, make your way through customs, collect your luggage and meet with your local Cuban guide and driver. Depart for the hotel while enjoying a panoramic overview of Havana, including El Vedado neighborhood, Universidad de La Habana, and El Malecón. Stop for a photo-op at the Plaza de la Revolución.

After checking into the hotel, take some time to get settled or get to know the area around the hotel on your own. For dinner, meet with your guide once again to be transferred to your welcome dinner to taste a few authentic Cuban delights, along with a mojito, or two!

ARRIVAL DAY

Hello Cuba! Upon arriving at Havana International Airport, make your way through customs, collect your luggage and meet with your local Cuban guide and driver. Depart for the hotel while enjoying a panoramic overview of Havana, including El Vedado neighborhood, Universidad de la Habana, and El Malecón. Stop for a photo-op at the Plaza de la Revolución.

ART & RELIGION

Rise and shine! Enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel before beginning your activities of the day.

Start your tour at Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña, also known as La Cabaña. This site is an 18th-century fortress complex, the third-largest in the Americas, located on the elevated eastern side of Havana harbor entrance. The fortress will be the main venue of the Havana Art Biennial.

After, continue the day with a visit to Callejon de Hamel, a community art project created by artist Salvador Gonzalez. The buildings are lined with brightly-hued paintings, murals, sculptures and objects which depict Afro-Yoruba religious rituals and deities.

Head towards Fusterlandia, located in the neighborhood of Jaimanitas. Fusterlandia was created by outstanding Cuban artist José Fuster, also known as the “Picasso of the Caribbean,” who has turned his neighborhood into a masterpiece of intricate tilework and kaleidoscopic colors. Enjoy lunch at a local paladar, a privately-owned restaurant.

Continue the afternoon with a visit to the workshops and galleries of brothers Kadir and Kevin Lopez. Here, learn about the types of art each artist creates and their influence in the city art arena.

Return to the hotel. Tonight dinner is on your own. Ask your guide for some suggestions on Havana nightlife!

April 14

ART & RELIGION

OLD HAVANA & GALLERIES

After having breakfast at the hotel, meet with your guide and driver for another day in the city.

Continue on a guided walking tour of Old Havana, including, Plaza de la Cathedral and Plaza de Armas. During this tour, stop at Taller Experimental de la Gráfica and see local artists in action.

Return to your hotel for lunch and some time to relax.

After recharging your batteries, continue the walking tour of Old Havana to visit Plaza de San Francisco de Asís, Plaza Vieja, Center for the Development of Visual Arts, and the Fototeca de Cuba.

Head to Instituto Superior de Arte, Higher Institute of the Arts, a competitive conservatory-like program, teaching the best of Cuba’s artistic future. Visit around the school and possibly meet with students and their instructors. Lunch is traditional Cuban cuisine, including rice, beans, and a special chicken recipe.

After, visit different art galleries or studios to exchange with the artists.

Return to the hotel. Tonight, dinner is on your own.

Enjoy a scenic drive through the Pinar del Río province before making your first stop at the lookout point from Los Jazmines Hotel. After taking a few pictures here, visit Benito’s Tobacco Farm to learn about tobacco production and the drying process. Interact with the farmer and his family.

Continue to a local organic farm and enjoy an authentic and delicious country lunch. Interact with the family and workers of the farm during lunch and learn about organic farming practices in Cuba.

Before heading back to Havana, visit the Viñales Artisan Market.

Return to the hotel. Tonight, dinner is on your own.

VIÑALES & TOBACCO

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a road trip to the famous countryside, Viñales Valley.

Next stop at Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museum of Fine Arts. Tour the Cuban Art Collection section with a museum curator. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, and have some time on your own to wander around the Havana Art Biennial exhibitions.

Gather once again to end today’s activities with a visit to the famous San Jose Craft Market. Return to the hotel.

Tonight, dinner is on your own.
